Our story begins about two years ago, when a tiny black kitten was found wreaking havoc on a small town hardware store. Scooped up, and brought to an SPCA in the big city (Vancouver, BC to be specific) it wasn’t long before a young couple paid him a visit, decided it was love, and brought him home. That young couple? Myself (Courtney) and my lovely partner, Lulu!

I think if Simon could talk, he’d agree that the day we all met was the best day of our lives. And the fun was just beginning! Our days were an endless cycle of playing, eating, watching The Office, and best of all, cuddling. Simon quickly got used to the sound of Lulu’s guitar, and after a year we brought him home a tiny kitten brother; Garfunkel! Our band was complete, and life was good.

October 25 was a little less fun than the two years prior. Simon broke his hip. A shock to us all, considering hes an indoor cat, who isn’t known to be a huge risk taker, jumping from extreme heights, or putting himself in potential danger. It was chalked up to just an unfortunate accident, and after a few tests were run, we learned surgery was absolutely necessary. A $4000 loan later, and two weeks confined to our bedroom, his leg was fixed up, and healing wonderfully. Things were beginning to look up, and Simon was getting back to his usual self. Lulu and I of course had a huge dept looming over our heads, but our Simon was okay, and that’s what mattered most.

On December 2nd, Simon’s other hip gave out. At first, we figured his howling was due to troubles with the original broken hip. But after a check up and x-rays, the vet concluded that the other hip was also broken. He told us Simon had an issue with his hind legs, likely since birth, and both of his hips breaking was bound to happen eventually.

Simon’s second surgery is taking place on December 6, 2018. It is the same surgery that was done on his left hip, totaling at $4000. Over $8000 for the two, not including the checkups and x-rays that were done to determine the injuries.

Asking for help is hard. I never thought I’d be making a gofundme to assist my payments for my cats vet visits… but I guess I never in my wildest dreams imagined my 2 year old, healthy, happy kitty breaking both of his hips in just over a month.

So, to anyone reading this. Family members, friends, strangers of the internet. Please consider donating to The Tragically Broken Hips fund! Anything helps, and our family would be incredibly grateful.
